What happened?

During firmware flashing on your Original Prusa XL, you might get the message "USB drive not connected! Please insert a USB drive with a valid firmware file".

Error name: USB not connected

Error code: #17602

This issue happens when there is an error reading the USB drive.

How to fix it?

Make sure that the USB drive is connected to the printer, and that the USB port in the Buddy board is not damaged. If the error persists, try using a new, FAT32-formatted USB drive

Subject: Persistent USB Detection Failure on Prusa XL Despite XLCD Replacement
Message:
Hi Prusa Support,
I’m experiencing a persistent issue with my Prusa XL where the printer fails to detect any USB stick, resulting in a “507 Insufficient Storage” error when uploading BGcode files via PrusaLink over Ethernet.
🔧 Troubleshooting Steps Taken:
• Replaced the XLCD board last month due to suspected USB port failure.
• Reformatted multiple USB sticks (including the Prusa-branded one) using FAT32 with full (non-quick) formatting.
• Verified USB functionality on other devices—sticks are readable and healthy.
• Inserted USB with printer powered off, then powered on and waited for detection.
• Reseated XLCD ribbon cable and inspected for bent pins or loose connections.
• Attempted firmware reflash and reboot cycles.
🧪 Observations:
• USB port still fails to detect any drive.
• PrusaLink uploads fail with “507 Insufficient Storage” despite Ethernet connection.
• Issue persists across multiple firmware versions and USB brands.
📌 Request:
I’d appreciate guidance on deeper diagnostics or a possible replacement XLCD board. If there’s a known issue with USB port reliability or a firmware workaround, I’m open to testing it. I’m trying to avoid another round of hardware swaps unless absolutely necessary.
Thanks for your help—looking forward to resolving this so I can get back to printing.
Best regards,
Jesse Wrenn
