                  What happened?

When the MMU unit unloads a filament from the extruder, the filament sensor inside the extruder should stop detecting the filament. In case it does not, this error appears.

If there is an issue with unloading, the MMU gears might grind the filament. In case this happens, cut off about 40 cm at the end of the filament; otherwise, errors might happen later.

                  How to fix it?

Check the PTFE tube that leads from the MMU unit to the extruder, and see if the filament has been unloaded or not.

In case the filament has not been unloaded, make sure that the nozzle is heated for the filament you are using. Then, open the Extruder idler screw and the Festo fitting on the top of the extruder, and manually pull the filament. Note that some force might be necessary.

                  MK3S/+, MK3.5/S

In case the filament has been unloaded, but the printer shows this error, remake the filament sensor calibration.

Check the alignment of the idler door and the Bondtech gears. On the idler door, check if the gear is moving freely and that the shaft is connected to both sides of the plastic part.

Make sure that there is no debris or pieces of filament in the idler door or extruder gears, causing the filament sensor to falsely trigger.

Remove the PTFE from the top of the extruder and make sure that there is no leftover filament stuck.

                  Nextruder (MK3.9/S, MK4/S, CORE One)

In case the filament has been unloaded, but the printer shows this error, open the PTFE tube that leads to the Nextruder and check if there is any filament stuck on the top of the heatsink.

Also make sure to clean the filament sensor.

MK3.9/S, MK4/SCORE One with MMU Lite/CORE One with MMU
                  enclosed

                  Filament

Check that you are using the correct settings for your filament with the manufacturer. Filaments with stringing may cause jamming.

Before restarting the printer, make sure the filament is straight, cut to a sharp tip, and free of damage over the first 40 cm.

If the issue persists across multiple unloads, check the extruder for clogging.

On the MK3/S/+ and MK3.5/S, in case the issue persists due to deformed filament tips, try changing the PTFE tube.

Yep basically NEVER use the spool join. “Force may be required” is an understatement, I just quit the whole operation.

The filament will get trapped between the MMU and nozzle and complain with no easy abort or easy fix.

Never use spoil join in mk4s it’s not worth the headache (yes I clipped the odd end on the original spool).

There’s no easy way to back out of this situation.

Also a video would be wildly helpful.

My problem is the MMU isn’t retracting the filament far enough out of the extruder. I get a 04104 error code. I know the filament sensor is working. All I have to do is push the filament back up the tube a little bit and it works. It happens on all filament changes. The sensor icon is on showing filament present.

Revert to FW 6.3.4 and 3.0.3 is the only fix for me.

FW 6.3.4 and 3.0.3 worked for me as well, spent 2 days on that one

shit - you are all right - it stopped working after the firmware upgrade - Prusa - are you doing something about that, or do i have to go back too (so - never change a running system once more)
I did not find FW 6.3.4, so i went with FW 6.4.0 and 3.0.3 - all good -- and so easy - before I took everything apart (two times), and it just did not want to work.

Currently, for me, the MMU3 doesn't feed the filament to the Nextruder. The filament never reaches the PTFE tubes let alone reach the Nextruder. Yet this is the error I receive. Suggestions?
The MMU doesn't even recognize there is filament!

                  **Edit & Solution:
The little magnet, that you have to superglue into place because it won't stay on it's own, is vibrating out of place when feeding filament into the Hot End. Sensor "breaks" in the middle of loading filament so the feeder thinks the filament never arrived, thus causes a spaghetti monster.

I have this same problem with "spool join". When I remove the filament, the MMU changes to the second joined spool.

The spool join function should allow the printer to keep on printing when a spool is finished. Unfortunately, this function is not possible without manually unloading the filament. This makes the spool joint function completely useless.
