This error refers to the TrinaMiC motor-drivers on the Einsy Rambo-board. They are the square chips located near the ports for the X, Y, Z, and E-motors on the Einsy RAMBo (Circled in red in the picture below). The error could be caused by a faulty chip and the board needs to be replaced, but not always. There are a couple of things you should check before contacting support.

                  What to check

                  Ambient temperature

Check the Ambient- temperature. The sensor is located on the board. On the LCD-menu, navigate to Support -> Temperatures -> Ambient. It is normal that this is higher than your ambient temperature (room temperature), when not printing, but should not exceed 60-70C.

                  1. The error can occur with a fully functional printer in an enclosure. If so, you need to check your ventilation-solution.

                  Dirty/dusty board

Check that the board, and more specifically the drivers are not full of dust and grease. Wipe them down with IPA 91% on a cotton-stick if they are.

                  Firmware bug

Pretty simple - Flash the firmware-again.

                  Custom firmware and GCODES

These can unknowingly increase the current to the motors over its recommended specifications, triggering this error. If you have any modifications installed that implements either, this is the place to start looking.

                  Wiring issue/ Short Circuit

A short circuit or fast voltage dip on, for example, a fan bus and/or possibly the 5-volt mainline. Check Soldering points on the print fan, and pay attention if the error appears when the fan is initiated, or upon the activation of any other non-integrated component.

If any of these steps prove unfruitful, the Einsy Rambo-board must be replaced. You can find it in our e-shop, for Original Prusa MK3 or Original Prusa MK3S, or contact Support.

would it make sense to install heatsinks on the chips and fan on the housing of the mainboard?

The print fan has three wires going onto it that after many strip downs of your print head will become frayed and can touch each other. I was getting this error and found a strand was intermitently touching and so have carefully separated them and added a dab of glue gun for now until I do a strip down and can re-solder.

Hi I keep getting the TMC Driver overtemp error on our MK3S-MMU2S.I have tried everything suggested on here, and to no avail.  We have not been able to print a single model as yet, since I built and connected the multimaterial upgrade( in August) The issue persists  regardless of the model and nothing seems to remedy it. It occurs around 9% into the printI have been trying on and off since then as other jobs have got in the way hence why I did not post earlier.  I have also tried tried printing a single colour model, using just one filament and the problem still occursI have contacted Prusa for their advice. Does anyone else have any other ideas? Thanks Greg

Hello. If you already followed the instructions on this article to now avail, probably the Einsy board should be replaced. If you already contacted the tech support, please wait for their reply for the next steps.

This error appeared a while after connecting a raspberry pi with octopi to the Einsy board. Disconnecting made the error go away.

My printer started giving me this error just after I flashed the 3.9.0 firmware for the MK3s MMU2S.

Hi, please double-check if the error goes away after re-flashing 3.8.1.

If the issue still persists, please do let us know via email.
