Step 1 Introduction

⬢This guide will take you through the PrusaLink setup on your Original Prusa XL printer.

This guide is valid for firmware version 4.7.5 or older.

⬢You will need to connect the printer to the network using Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection.

First, read the article about PrusaLink and Prusa Connect to get general information about these services.

⬢Insert the bundled USB flash drive into the printer and keep it there.

Step 2 Networking options

⬢The preferred network connection type can be selected in the menu Settings > Network > Default

⬢Make sure Wi-Fi is selected.

The Wi-Fi supports 2.4GHz networks only!

⬢If you prefer the wired Ethernet connection to the network, use the connector on the back of the printer and skip to step 7.

Step 3 Generating the credentials

⬢Visit the menu Settings > Network > Wi-Fi and select Create credentials

⬢The printer will generate a prusa_printer_settings.ini configuration file on the USB drive.

⬢Remove the USB drive from the printer.

If there is a valid configuration file on the USB drive already, you can skip these steps and just load it straight away.

Step 4 Editing the configuration file

⬢There are two main ways to fill in credentials for a Wi-Fi connection:

⬢Using PrusaSlicer (recommended)- let's take a look at this in step Editing the configuration file (PrusaSlicer)

⬢Using a text editor - let's look at this in step Editing the configuration file (text editor)

Step 5 Editing the configuration file (PrusaSlicer)

⬢Run PrusaSlicer on your computer.

Make sure you have PrusaSlicer version 2.7.0 or later. Older versions do not support this feature. You can download the latest version of PrusaSlicer on prusaslicer.org

⬢Connect the USB drive to your computer.

⬢Once the USB is connected, the program will display a dialog box for you to fill in the credentials for your Wi-Fi. Alternatively, you can access the window by clicking on the message at the bottom. In which you fill in:

⬢SSID: Select or write down the name of the Wi-Fi network you want to connect your printer to.

⬢Password: Write down the Wi-Fi password. Make sure nobody is watching!

⬢Drive: Keep the selected USB drive from your printer

⬢Click the Write button to save the settings.

Step 6 Editing the configuration file (text editor)

This method of entering Wi-Fi credentials using a text editor is an alternative to using PrusaSlicer. If you have chosen the PrusaSlicer (previous) method, proceed to the next step.

⬢Connect the USB drive to your computer.

⬢Locate the prusa_printer_settings.ini file on the USB drive created by the printer. Open the file in any text editor.

⬢Go to the second line named ssid= and write down the name of the Wi-Fi network you want to connect your printer to.

⬢Now, go to the third line named psk= and write down the Wi-Fi password. Make sure nobody is watching!

⬢Save the file on the USB drive.

Step 7 Loading the configuration file

⬢Connect the USB drive back to the printer.

⬢Navigate to the menu Network > Wi-Fi and select Load credentials.

⬢Hit Continue to finish the Wi-Fi wizard.

⬢Wait until the connection is established - indicated by a white Wi-Fi icon on the top of the screen.

⬢In case youre using the wired Ethernet connection instead, another icon appears.

Step 8 Obtaining the IP address

⬢After the connection was established, navigate to the menu Settings > Network > IPv4 Address. Note down the IP address shown.

⬢Open up a web browser on your computer. Insert the IP address into the address line and open it up as a webpage.

Note, this IP address is accessible on your local network only and might change over time according to your network setup.

We recommend using Chrome or Firefox browser as there are login issues when using Safari or Edge.

Step 9 Logging into PrusaLink

⬢PrusaLink webpage should appear, requesting a log-in.

⬢On the printer, navigate to Settings > Network > Prusalink to get the username and password.

⬢Use the provided username and password to log into PrusaLink on your computer.

Step 10 Printing via PrusaLink

⬢To start printing wirelessly, navigate to the Storage tab in PrusaLink.

⬢Select a G-code file to be printed or drag&drop it into the marked area.

⬢Make sure the printer is ready to print:

⬢There must be a USB drive in the printer.

⬢An empty, degreased and clean steel sheet must be attached on the heatbed.

⬢The printer should be on the home screen. If there is any prompt on the LCD screen, the printer will reject any remote command.

⬢After the file is uploaded, open up the file details. From here, you can Start Print.

Step 11 Prusa Connect

⬢Great! You made it!

⬢You can now delete the configuration file from the USB drive for security reasons.

⬢Now, you may want to Add the printer to Prusa Connect to be able to control the printer from the Internet using the Prusa Connect cloud service.
