Insufficient cooling (PLA only)

Updated 3 weeks ago by Tomáš Chvalina

If your printed objects look a bit melted or distorted while printing PLA, it can be caused by insufficient cooling of the object. The fans on your printer aren’t cooling the object with sufficient amount of air or potentially not working at all.

Check the following:

  1. Double check that you have generated your gcode with proper settings. For PLA you should have print fan speed between 85% to 100%. With the exception of 1st layer.
  2. Check if you have your Front Print fan properly plugged into the miniRAMBo or EINSY RAMBo board. If it is and you believe it might be faulty. Simply go Settings - Temperatures - Fan speed. Try to turn it on and see if it moves freely.
  3. Small object. For very small objects you need to print more of them together. The printer is unable to cooldown thin small objects sufficiently and printing several objects at once gives each object enough time to properly dissipate heat.
