Insufficient cooling (PLA only)

Updated 2 months ago by Tomáš Chvalina

If your printed objects look a bit melted or distorted when printing with PLA-based filaments, it can be caused by insufficient cooling. The fans on your printer aren’t cooling the object with sufficient amount of air, or potentially, they don't work at all.

Check the following:

  1. Double check that you have generated your gcode using proper settings. For PLA you should have print fan speed between 85% to 100%, except for the 1st layer.
  2. Check the front print fan and make sure it is properly plugged into the miniRAMBo or EINSY RAMBo board. If it is, and you believe it might be faulty, navigate to Settings - Temperatures - Fan speed. Turn on the fan and see if it moves freely.
  3. Small object cause issues. For very small objects, you need to print more of them together. The printer is unable to cool small thin objects sufficiently. Printing several objects at once gives each object enough time to properly dissipate heat.
