Power Panic

Updated 4 weeks ago by Tomáš Chvalina

One of the most wanted features is finally available. All of the Original Prusa i3 MK3 owners shall not experience failed prints once the power goes off.

If you just want to test this feature, then visit MK3 safety features - how to test them.

How does it work?

  1. A sensor detects mains voltage. In case of an interruption, it immediately shuts down Heatbed/Extruder heating.
  2. The last bit of the power is used from the capacitors to lift the Extruder away from the print.
  3. In case of a very short power failure, the printer will automatically restore printing.
However, in case of a long period without power, which results in cooling down the heated bed, the printer will wait for you to decide whether to continue or not. What shall you check before doing so?
Heatbed cools down during the black out
  1. As bed would cool down over time, there is a risk that your print will not stick to the Heatbed anymore. So, check if all of your prints are properly attached.
  2. After that you can restore printing. Yet it is better to observe the behaviour of the printer for next 5-10 minutes to see if everything continues without any problems.
Power panic doesn't work if you interrupt the print with the on/off power switch.
