Paso 1 Introduction

⬢This guide will take you through the replacement of the Z-axis motor on the Original Prusa XL.

Las siguientes instrucciones son compatibles con todas los versiones de las Original Prusa XL.

Note that you have to be logged in to have access to the spare parts section.

This manual is for both Z-axis motors on the XL printer.

Paso 2 Herramientas necesarias

⬢Cable cutter (this tool is not included with the Original Prusa XL)

⬢Brida (2x)

Paso 3 Unloading filament

⬢If you have loaded the filament, unload it from the hotend. On the screen, navigate to Filament -> Unload Filament.

WARNING: The hotend and heatbed are very HOT. Do not touch these parts!!!

⬢Remove the filament from the hotend. It is necessary to completely remove it from the printer.

⬢Enfria la impresora, navegando a Precalentar > Enfriar.

Paso 4 Preparando la impresora - extracción de los accesorios laterales

See if the side of the motor you will change has an antenna, spool holder, or filament sensor. In case any of those is present, follow the instructions below to remove it.

⬢Use a 4 mm Allen key to unscrew the M5x85 screw that holds the spool holder to the side of the printer.

⬢Unscrew the antenna by hand and remove it.

If you have the antenna at the back of the printer, there is no need to remove it.

Paso 5 Preparación de la impresora

⬢Auto-home tu impresora, navegando a Control -> Autohome.

⬢Mueva el eje Z 5 cm por debajo del Nextruder. Navega hasta Control -> Mover Eje -> Mover Z.

⬢From the rear side, turn the power switch OFF (symbol "O").

⬢Unlug the power cable.

Paso 6 Desmontaje del sensor de filamento lateral

The following step is necessary only if the filament sensor is on the same side as the motor that is being replaced.

⬢Con dos dedos, empuja la pinza negra situada en la parte posterior del conjunto del sensor de filamento.

⬢Al mismo tiempo, extrae suavemente el tubo de PTFE del extrusor del conjunto del sensor de filamento.

The connector has a safety latch. It is necessary to press the latch before disconnecting. Otherwise, the connector may get damaged.

⬢Detach the filament sensor from the M3nEs nut using a T10 screwdriver.

⬢The filament sensor might be attached with a hex screw instead. In that case, detach the filament sensor from the M3nEs nut using a 2.5mm Allen key.

⬢Presiona la pestaña para desconectar el cable del sensor de filamento.

Paso 7 Removing the frame-rear-cover

⬢Con una llave Allen de 2.5 mm, afloja el tornillo de la frame-rear-cover.

⬢Saca con cuidado el frame-rear-cover.

Paso 8 Disconnecting the electronics

⬢Using the T10 key, loosen the XLBuddy-cover.

⬢Using the T10 key, loosen the bolts slightly, to slide and remove the XL-rear-cable-management-plug.

Cada conector tiene una pestaña de seguridad. Es necesario presionar la pestaña antes de desconectar. De lo contrario, el conector podría dañarse.

⬢Disconnect the Dwarf 1 cable.

⬢If you have a multi-tool version of the XL, disconnect the Dwarf 2 cable.

⬢Slide back the XL-rear-cable-management-plug.

Paso 9 Descubriendo la electrónica

⬢Using a T10 screwdriver, loosen the four M3x5rT screws. Do not throw them away! We'll use them later.

⬢Carefully pull out the rear-cable-management-upper.

Paso 10 Disconnecting the Z-axis motor cable

Be careful and avoid damaging the cables using the cable cutter!

⬢Using a cable cutter, carefully cut the two zip ties on the side of the motor to be replaced.

The procedure is equivalent, but on the rear right, in case of replacing the right Z-axis motor.

⬢Disconnect the motor cable from the motor that will be replaced.

Paso 11 Placing the printer

⬢Turn the printer to the left side if the motor to replace is on the left side.

⬢If the motor to replace is on the right side, turn the printer to the right side.

The following steps will be the same for replacing the Z-axis motor on either side.

No muevas la impresora antes de finalizar la sustitución.

Paso 12 Destapando el cable del motor del eje Z - parte inferior

⬢Take a look at the bottom of the printer and locate:

⬢Extrusion cover 243mm

⬢Z-motor-cable-bottom-cover

⬢Remove both covers from the printer.

The bottom of the printer is ready.

Paso 13 Descubriendo el cable motor del eje Z - parte trasera

⬢Localiza la tapa de la extrusión trasera de 354mm, y retírala.

La impresora ya está lista para liberar el motor.

Paso 14 Soltando los motores del eje Z - parte 1

⬢Con un destornillador T10, retira los cuatro tornillos M4x10rT. Los utilizaremos más tarde.

⬢Con un destornillador T10, retira los cuatro tornillos M3x12rT del bastidor de la cama caliente. ¡No los tires! Los utilizaremos más tarde.

Paso 15 Soltando los motores del eje Z - parte 2

⬢Desliza el bed-frame-mount hasta la mitad de la guía lineal.

⬢Con un destornillador T10, retira los cuatro tornillos M3x8rT para soltar el motor Z. ¡No los tires! Los utilizaremos más tarde.

Paso 16 Extracción del motor del eje Z

⬢Sujeta el motor del eje Z con la mano. ¡No lo retires todavía!

⬢Sujeta la varilla roscada con la otra mano.

⬢Extrae con cuidado el motor del Bed-frame.

Paso 17 New motor: parts preparation

⬢For the following steps, prepare the following parts:

⬢Motor del eje Z (1x)

⬢Trapezoidal nut (1x)

⬢Brida (2x)

Paso 18 Installing the trapezoid nut: installing the nut

⬢Attach the new trapezoidal nut onto the Z-axis threaded rods, only a few centimeters in.

Double-check the correct orientation of the nut! See the picture carefully.

⬢Screw the trapezoid nut 6 cm from the top of the Z-axis motor.

⬢Con una mano, coge el motor del eje Z y mantenlo en fila.

⬢Utilizando la segunda mano, inserte suavemente el motor del eje Z de nuevo a través del Bed-frame.

⬢For the following steps, please prepare:

⬢M4x12rT screw (2x)

⬢M3x12rT screw (2x)

⬢M3x10rT screw (4x)

Paso 21 Asegurando el motor del eje Z

⬢Insert four M3x10rT screws into the four holes in Z-motor-mount.

⬢Aprieta los tornillos con un destornillador T10.

Paso 22 Asegurando la tuerca trapezoidal

¡No muevas el Bed-frame! Mueve solo la tuerca trapezoidal.

⬢From the bottom side of the heatbed:

⬢Alinea el orificio roscado de la tuerca trapezoidal con el Bed-frame girándola en el sentido de las agujas del reloj.

⬢From the upper side of the heatbed:

⬢Locate two holes next to the threaded rod.

Be really careful, you can easily turn the screw and damage the thread in the trapezoid nut.

⬢Insert two M4x12rT screws and gently tighten them using a T10 screwdriver.

Paso 23 Asegurando el Bed-frame

⬢Desliza manualmente el bed-frame-mount hacia el base calefactable.

⬢Fija el Bed-frame-mount con dos tornillos M3x12rT utilizando un destornillador T10.

Paso 24 Cubriendo el motor del eje Z - parte inferior

⬢Take a look at the bottom of the printer.

¡Ten cuidado de no pellizcar ningún cable!

⬢Inserta el cable del motor en la extrusión. Asegúrate primero de que va perpendicular del motor a la extrusión.

⬢Inserta la cubierta de la extrusión de 243mm. Empújala y deslízala hacia la derecha.

⬢Aprieta la Z-motor-cable-bottom-cover contra el marco.

Paso 26 Girando la impresora

⬢Gira la impresora hacia el lado derecho sobre sus pies.

⬢Si el motor del eje Z sustituido estaba en el otro lado, gira la impresora hacia el lado izquierdo sobre sus pies.

Paso 27 Tightening the frame-rear-cover

¡No apriete los cables!

⬢Desliza con cuidado el frame-rear-cover.

⬢Aprieta el tornillo M3x12 con la llave de 2.5 mm.

Paso 28 Connecting the Z-axis motor cable

⬢Connect the new Z-axis motor according to the wiring diagram in the picture.

Paso 29 Securing cables (left)

If you are replacing the Z-axis motor on the left side, follow this step.

If you are replacing the Z-axis motor on the right side, skip this step and proceed with step 26.

ATENCIÓN: ¡No aprietes en exceso las bridas! Podrías dañar los cables si lo haces.

⬢Debajo de los cables, hay dos perforaciones en la chapa.

⬢Inserta dos bridas a través de las perforaciones de la chapa para fijar los cables. Apriétalas suavemente.

⬢Recorta lo que sobresale de las bridas.

Paso 30 Securing cables (right)

If you are replacing the Z-axis motor on the right side, follow this step.

ATENCIÓN: ¡No aprietes en exceso las bridas! Podrías dañar los cables si lo haces.

⬢Insert two zip ties through the perforations in the metal sheet to secure the cables. Tighten them gently.

⬢Recorta lo que sobresale de las bridas.

Paso 31 Visión general del cableado de la electrónica

Before proceeding to the next step, check the cable connections according to the picture.

In the second picture the full wiring diagram is shown. Only the 'Motor Z - left' and 'Motor Z - right' have been disconnected and reconnected during this guide.

⬢Double-check all the connections before proceeding to the next step.

Paso 32 Electronics cover back: parts preparation

⬢Para los siguientes pasos, por favor prepara:

⬢XL-buddy-box-cover (1x)

¡Ten cuidado de no atrapar los cables!

Paso 34 Covering the XLBuddy

⬢Attach the XL-buddy-box-cover to the screws on the electronics box. Slide it down to lock it on the screws.

⬢Aprieta los tornillos con un destornillador T10.

Paso 35 Connecting the Nextruder cable

⬢Localiza el xl-rear-cable-management-plug (cubierta) en la parte posterior de la impresora.

⬢Afloja dos tornillos de la tapa ligeramente. No es necesario retirarlos completamente. Empuja la cubierta hacia la derecha y retírala de la impresora.

⬢Conecta el cable del extrusor a la ranura superior etiquetada como DWARF 1.

⬢In case the printer is a multi-tool XL, connect the cable from tool 2 to the lower slot labeled DWARF 2.

⬢Fija la cubierta de los conectores a los tornillos. Empújala hacia la derecha y aprieta los tornillos.

Paso 36 Preparando el sensor de filamento

⬢Para los siguientes pasos, por favor prepara:

⬢M3x12rT screw (1x)

⬢Filament sensor assembly

Paso 37 Colocando el sensor de filamento

⬢Connect the filament sensor cable to the filament sensor assembly.

⬢Mueva el conjunto del sensor de filamento a la parte superior de la extrusión y alinea la tuerca M3nEs de modo que quede alineada con la abertura del conjunto del sensor de filamento.

⬢Fija el sensor de filamento a la tuerca M3nEs utilizando el tornillo M3x12rT y el destornillador T10.

⬢Insert the PTFE tube from the extruder into to the first collet on the rear of the filament sensor assembly.
